King Of The Dot has announced a second headline battle for the “Massacre 2” event in Cambridge, Mass. Iron Solomon will face off against B Magic on a card that so far features the rematch of Hollow Da Don vs. Pat Stay and Head I.C.E vs. Bigg K.

This will be the third KOTD battle for both emcees, with Solomon having recently put on standout battles with Daylyt and Dizaster, and Magic doing work against Rum Nitty in 2014, and battling Bigg K at “Duel In The Desert” later that year.

BattleRap.com's Chris Mitchell caught up with B Magic at URL’s “Double Impact” in March. The St. Louis emcee and his Writer’s Bloque teammate Chilla Jones recapped their battle against T-Top and Brizz Rawsteen, and then, with the help of Poison Pen, Magic announced his opponent for the KOTD card.

About the match-up, Poison Pen says Magic has “a lofty task ahead of him.” Though his performance at “Double Impact” was clean, B Magic has slipped or choked in several battles recently, most notably against Brixx Belvedere and Money Bagz. He’s also announced his retirement at the end of 2016.

BattleRap.com spoke with Iron Solomon to find out why he requested Magic for the match-up.

"I like B Magic,” Solomon said over the phone. "I think he’s super dope. He was one of the people who impressed me when I started watching battle rap again with the idea of getting back in the ring. His style is modern and current, but it has a classic 90s feel to it with the rhythmic delivery and punchlines. I used to be worried about my career arc when it came to picking opponents before, but now I’m more interested in challenging myself creatively and in creating a great moment in hip hop. I think Magic is dope and since he’s thinking about retiring, I want to work with him like that before he does."

Addressing Magic’s recent performance issues, Solomon said, “It’s something that I became aware of more recently, and it’s unfortunate because it takes away from the anticipation of the match-up. I want to take people at the peak of their form, but I’m hoping I’m able to bring the best out of him, kind of like with Dizaster and Daylyt. We spoke on the phone recently, and I expect him to bring it in the battle.”

Magic’s back-to-back punching is a far cry from Solomon’s more structured long-form content, but Solomon thinks the style clash won’t be too jarring. “I like to step into my opponent’s world a bit. But you can’t out-B-Magic B Magic. To me, it’s aways been important to be well rounded. Writing a battle is like mixing a record, where you can change the bass and the treble depending on what mix you want. I have punchlines in the chamber and I want to show I can punch with the best punchers and stand next to the best from any style. That’s why I’m back."

Also, notably, during our 10-minute conversation with Solomon, he was interrupted by a stranger coming up to him to praise his work. “I just want to say that Iron Solomon is one of my favorite battle rappers of all time,” we overheard the man say.
