On May 7, URL makes its return to the West Coast with a Proving Grounds event in Oakland. In the main event, up-and-comer Emerson Kennedy will be battling URL veteran Young Kannon. Emerson caught up with Chris Mitchell at KOTD’s "Back to Basics 4" to discuss the match-up.
Emerson indicated that he has a lot of incentive to do well in the battle, explaining that his showing against Kannon will determine if he makes the next big URL West Coast event (rumored to be "Traffic 2"), and who he’ll battle there. Kennedy says that it was made clear to him “depending on how I do against Kannon I could get a pretty well-known opponent at Traffic.”
On the match-up with Kannon, Kennedy said: “I’m a fan of Young Kannon,” but also added that more than just respect for his opponent is making him want the win. “They offered me a couple of opponents, but everyone calls Kannon the PG killer, so it’s more of an ego thing.”
There are several more interesting battles on the card, the other one off with Profecy vs. Ha Double and several other up-and-comers specifically being ones to watch.
