In a short time, Bullpen Battle League has developed a strong roster of under-the-radar talented battlers who are just on the cusp of really breaking out, near the top of the list is Florida's Loso.
The Christian battle rapper is one of the best up-and-comers from Bullpen. His latest battle with XCel at Bullpen's "Fade" had people in attendance calling it battle of the night and arguing that it was a classic. As both the league and Loso himself grow their reputations, his will be a name that everybody in the culture will need to watch out for.
So since we all want to brag that we were fans of someone before they became famous, get to know Loso a little better.
Who are you?
A sinner saved by grace! Artist, battler and teacher. Wanna know my testimony? Read Ephesians 2!
How old are you?
Old enough to know I don't know anything.
Why do you live where you live?
Originally born in Queens NY but moved to Tampa Fl when my mom wanted a new start. Been living here ever since.
How long have you been battling/rapping?
Rapping for 5 years and battling for 1 year. Feels like forever tho.
What made you start?
It was a challenge. Lots of my friends wanted me to try it and thought I could be successful but I had doubts. I also wanted to build relationships with battlers and talk life with them and the best way I knew to engage the culture was to become a battler.
How did you get your battle rap name?
I rap for a living. My artist name is Loso so I just transitioned with it to the battle rap world. My name is Carlos so as a nickname you either get stuck with "Los" or "Loso". Lol ain't really too many choices.
How would you describe your style in three words?
A "game of chess"
What makes you different from other battle rappers?
My chief end. Regardless of what people may say I want to Glorify God. So my motivation is different. On a skill level I would say how I can combine all aspects of battling into one round (performance, punches, personals, ect). Not too many battler rappers give you EVERYTHING in 3 rounds.
What’s your best battle? (and why?)
Probably my last battle w/ Xcel. To go back and forth with a vet and use rebuttals in front of the largest crowd I've ever battled in front of before... Speaks volumes for me. I always hope my last battle is my best battle.
What was your worst? (and why?)
Not sure if I have a worst. I've clearly won every battle (5 battles in) and haven't choked at all. The battle I wish I can do over is against Fred Ease. I rapped exactly 90 seconds and he went like 2 and some change... Maybe even 3 minutes.
What did you learn from them?
That I can't be stopped ..... Na lol... Just to do me. If I know my material and rap I can make a classic with whoever.
What’s surprised you the most since you started battling?
Man! THE SHOTS PEOPLE SEND AT YOU WHEN YOURE BUZZING. I'm just sitting in my room and getting tagged in "I'll kill Loso".. "Loso is gassed" ... "Loso is only good cause JohnJohn is consigning him"... EVERY SECOND. But the love is outweighing the hate. I'm surprised by how many people converse about battlers, it's humbling.
What’s your favorite battle of all time?
Surf vs Hitman.... Period. No debating.
Who’s in your current Top 5?
Hollow, Mook, Lux, Surf, Hitman
Which battle rapper annoys you? (and why?)
T-Rex! I know he's a legend.... But I haven't seen that in any performance in this era. It's almost like we shorten the 3 point distance for him. We act like we're going crazy when in reality he's spittin' Mixtape bars. GOH!
Who would you battle if you could choose anyone?
Gjonaj! That's my dream matchup.
What’s the biggest problem in battle rap?
Leagues not branding their own talent. So every league thinks they NEED to book an URL rapper or they wouldn't sell a ticket.
How would you fix it?
Have leagues hold tryouts consistently for new talent and then, when they find a gem, they gotta sign them or offer them something so they can stick around.
What do you do when you’re not battling?
I travel and perform. I'm a national recording artist. Go cop that "Valley of Vision" by Loso on iTunes/Spotify/Amazon
How do you want to be remembered?
A dying man rapping to dying men.
