Method Man To Host Celebrity Battle Rap TV Show

KOTD champion Rone is also involved with the show.

Method Man has been announced as the host of an upcoming celebrity battle rap show called "Drop The Mic." The show will feature four celebrities each episode competing against each other and will be judged by the live studio audience. The first episode of the show is scheduled to air on May 2 on TBS.

To those excited to see authentic battle rap getting a look on television, don't get your hopes too far up. The show will be a spin off of the viral rap battles of the same name performed on James Corden's late night show and was described in a statement by TBS exec Michael Bloom as a "funny, authentic, high-energy series that brings together Hip Hop, comedy and pop culture in a way we’ve never seen before.”

As for what to expect, smart money is on the battles being roughly similar to the style that appeared on Corden's show. Watch an example below.

So while it's not exactly the look that many in the battle community would have hoped for, any time battle rap is able to expand even a little more into the public consciousness, there exists some potential for the entire culture to grow.

Oh, and also Rone is involved.
