Uno Lavoz vs. Rone: What To Expect

A look at what could be a comedy classic between two Philadelphians.

King of the Dot’s “Flatline 3” is coming soon, with a card whose headline battles (Pat Stay vs. Daylyt and Charron vs. Charlie Clips) are getting most of the attention. Among the more interesting match-ups on the undercard is Rone vs. Uno Lavoz, which finally pits the Grind Time vets against each other on a big stage.

Although there doesn’t seem to be much of a grudge here, to me this match-up makes perfect sense and could be a (hilarious) classic if both come correct. Both Rone and Uno have proven that relentlessly clowning opponents with multis and punches is a reliable strategy for long-term success.

Like it or not, Uno Lavoz has been on fire lately. After a clear 2-1 over Jae Laww in the Proving Grounds, he reportedly 3-0’d Young X on URL’s "Summer Madness 4: Warm-Up" stage, both extending his fan base and overwriting his reputation as a choke artist in the process.

This new streak does raise a few questions though. Of course he was funny in both these battles, but there’s no denying that we saw a more focused, more — dare I say it — “street” side of Uno on URL. We also saw a much goofier, sloppier version versus Sketch Menace on KOTD almost just as recently, with most fans calling the victory for Sketch.

Now, back on KOTD, which Uno will we see? Will it be an aggressive, prepared Uno, punching and scheming while throwing in the jokes we want to hear? I hope so, because I don’t think anything less will work against Rone.

Rone is unquestionably the most screwed-over battle rapper of the year, getting no-showed by both JC and Qleen Paper, vaulted by URL after allegedly bodying Danja Zone, and subjected to homophobic criticism for his compliment battle with Pat Stay, all in 2014. Considering how seriously he just took said battle versus Pat Stay, the man is clearly hungry.

Who wouldn’t want to kill their next opponent after a year of taking L’s without actually losing? I’m fairly certain that we’ll see a polished, focused Rone at “Flatline 3,” with multisyllabic jokes and just enough of the sort of aggression you’d need to beat a prepared Uno Lavoz at this time in his career.

Will Uno mock Rone for admiring Pat Stay’s physique and personal taste for three rounds? Yes, absolutely. Will Rone point out something hysterical that no one has ever noticed about Uno? Most likely. Will this battle be a classic? It definitely should be, but the win will come down to who feels they need it more.
