Post-Battle Breakdown: Math Hoffa vs. Chilla Jones

Jason "Majin" Dotts reviews the main event clash at Don't Flop Atlanta's "Resurrection."

Ok, normally I don't work this quick, but I got the Don't Flop PPV and naturally I had to jump on the chance to give the first legitimate review of Math vs. Chilla. The main event. So let's get into a brief history of these two.

Fhdnejfhtjeksjfndkdbf... Sorry y'all, Math just walked up and smacked my phone out my hand and snuck me just now. And I ain't even in son's geographical region. Math has a reputation of ... let's just say ... you know what? Fuck churching it up, snuffing niggas who get just SLIGHTLY out of pocket in a battle. Dose and Serius Jones can attest to that. Beyond that, Math is actually pretty good at what he does. He's a bully yes, but a tactical one. He knows which shots to take with his punches (pun intended) and has a lot of wit alongside that. He can go from jokes to reality quickly and that gives niggas battle rap whiplash. He has a lot of redeeming to do. Can he start to do so here?

Chilla Jones

I'm pretty sure this nigga doesn't have a pen and pad and just thinks shit up while solving a 20-sided Rubik's cube with one hand while fixing flux capacitors and defying quantum physics with the other. I'm almost positive his ghost writer exists in the Andromeda Galaxy. No one should be this goddamn intricate and precise with their wordplay. The level of son's schemes is unmatched in all honesty. His performance can be hit or miss and many give him losses in the building but quickly change their minds once they see the footage and break down his bars. And when you do? You might as well get your Ph.D in thermonuclear astrophysics while you're at it. But can he outsmart the bully? Or bob and weave? Let's find out.

Round 1

Math Hoffa

Math using multis. The "black and mild" line hit and accompanies the wit. "Last time I had to fight a Jones? It got uncomfortable" bar hit and for a battler who hates being known for giving battlers eye jammies, he spits a lot about giving niggas eye jammies. The Claire Huxtable line is a good attempt at wordplay but you have to out-wordplay Chilla and this might be the best route to go. The chinchilla line has been done to death (previously by M. Ciddy and JC) but Math is gonna beat the dead horse until the stick leaves splinters in the pavement. Math's wit is pretty much carrying him this round and I'm not mad at the jokes. But he's gonna need more than what he spit this round.

Chilla Jones

"I'm like finally, Hoffa's writin' rhymes for me."

This Opposite Day or some shit?

Now Chilla's using wit, which isn't a strength of his but nonetheless, it works.

That Kit Kat line ... sheesh. The basic math scheme and the aerosol scheme had me wondering what planet this nigga Chilla is from. Seriously. I really think son can break down an enzyme flat by just thinking the shit. Yeah it's a bit stretched but it's not badly done. It wasn't as bad as Tay Roc misspelling calendar or not knowing which president is on which bill. So far, Chilla is scheming the satin bonnet off of Math's dome and the mathematics line wasn't forced and worked well with the crowd. He goes back into the mathematics scheme and this confused me as to why he bothered spreading it out but I'm giving this round to Chilla. Hands down. Clearly.

Round 2

Math Hoffa

And we have a prayer angle that ends in "dear father, please let me get back on URL!" Not gonna lie. Math's wit is Top 3 easily. The prayer angle was pretty creative and got him back on track. Math takes an angle on how his opponent schemes and how Chilla doesn't mean what he says. He uses his wit to show Chilla doesn't belong in hood spots and would scheme to fit in. This whole round is essentially a G check round with an "urn n' ash" line and he broke Chilla down pretty efficiently. I'm surprised he didn't tap his pockets. But this round was pretty good.

Chilla Jones

The "serious disaster" line was dope and it goes into a career breakdown. There's a bit of unnecessary filler in the beginning that lacks momentum, but it goes from a career breakdown to a life and career and G status breakdown. Now I'm fine with exposing hypocritical thug behavior, but the wind-up for the punch could've been done better. Reality checks are hard to do in battling and harder to sell, but Chilla somehow schemes it. The Rob Dyrdek line went over heads a bit but they caught on. "You ain't got bars like that, all you got is hooks, you're Bruno Mars like that." That got said. Yup. Then he ends it by saying Bonnie ducked MyVerse. Which she did. Dodged her like a Matrix bullet. I edge this round to Math. He was harder hitting here but this one is the closest.

Round 3

Math Hoffa

Here's the thing, when you ask everyone to sing the hook to 50 Cent's "Many Men," you essentially are admitting to the crowd that maybe this round is potentially dryer than a box that cums graham cracker crumbs. And so far it appears that way. Shots at Diz so far. I get he wants to vent but that's what Vlad's couch is for. Vent on that when DNA ain't sleeping on it yo. There's a LOT of shots fired at Krack City, Diz, KOTD, etc. There's WAAAAY too much crowd catering in this round where he could've potentially won this battle. There are a few lines directed at Chilla but most of them lack what he brought in Rounds 1 and 2. I appreciate the laughs it brought but nothing was direct. At all.

Chilla Jones

Coming out the gate with a personal Justin Diz scheme. It's personal now. I sense this round is gonna be about Diz and KOTD. Chilla's Bonnie line made Math react like there was WAAAY too much truth to it. I heard the "back / good posture" line before too from ICE. It was spit in a different sense but I knew it when I heard it.

Evidently Bonnie fucked Drake, according to Chilla. Imagine how that gotta feel, knowing your shorty left you to fuck with a nigga that buys and uses the same body wash and nail file as her. "Shorty is a straight jump off, that's a skydiver." Line was vicious. THIS Chilla is dangerous right now and the personal schemes I'm hearing are hitting with Hawkeye accuracy. This might be Chilla's best round and if he had this against Cee Major it wouldn't have been a debatable. Now it's a roasting session about Math's age. Chilla's making it sound like Math used to battle Cro-Magnon men for saber-toothed tiger fangs and shit. Chilla won this round too.

Final Thoughts

So that was Math vs. Chilla...

Math hasn't really changed up, but as the saying goes: if it ain't broke, don't tell it that it's broke or he'll punch your jawbone into the crowd. Math created a good battle but it seemed like he entertained the crowd more than battled Chilla, which works in its own way. There's a view that how you put on wins battles, rather than how you put on and what you actually spit. Niggas saying they respect "real shit" will probably state Math won but in all honesty Chilla outclassed him and actually came with humor that didn't make him seem like a scheme-making android capable of creating satellites for mass or being on the fucking Starship Enterprise.

This battle was a good one. And I can see it being a potential classic.

That's it. I'm Majin and I'm out. Peace.

P.S. Shoutout to Don't Flop for being the dope league that it is. Made me feel like part of the crew instantaneously at the Day 1 event and I got nothing but love for them. Peace.
