Dizaster vs. Dumbfoundead: Post-Battle Breakdown

It's been a little while. Ok ok. Enough with the niceties.

I watched two Fresh Coast legends battle last night. Dizaster vs. Dumbfoundead and ... I feel a little cheated. Chill. Chill. Put the torches away and let me explain why I'm saying this shit.

I really expected more variety from Diz and more oomph in Dumb's lines. This battle was a Twinkie and a nigga was hungry for steak. I really thought I was getting a T-bone and ended up with ramen and saltines.

Diz decided to shave his head and dress like The Last Airbender or a Shaolin monk. I didn't know if he was there to battle or throw a fucking Hadouken, but I can appreciate a good antic that doesn't involve niggas getting naked.

If you want gun bars, that real street shit that makes you wanna sell your mom's jewelry so you can get in the game and become a don? Then type in URLTV on YouTube because that shit is not here. Which is fine, I don't always dine on bullets, but yeah.

Diz spent three rounds spitting Asian jokes.

Asian jokes my nigga.

I was almost surprised that Diz didn't do the fingers to the sides of the eyelids and spit his raps bucktoothed yo. His focus was obvious, his energy was impressive and the metaphors and multis were incredibly clever, but he was as one-dimensional here as he was against Arcane ... only with Asian jokes.

Then there was Dumbfoundead annnnnnnd ... Lebanese/Middle Eastern jokes. Sprinkled with some exposure. Which I dug. But Dumb was incredibly lackluster. The shot at Lush One was hilarious but yup. ISIS bars. Wouldn't mind if they walked in and beheaded a nigga right about now.

That said, the Toronto crowd slept heavy on a ton of his best shit, but Dumb should be enough of a vet to realize that L.A. references won't work in Canada. Replace the Watts Tower reference with the CN Tower and this coulda been a whole different battle.

I wanted to see a clash with a sense of history and all I got were jokes I can tell to my non-Asian and non-Lebanese friends. (Kidding)

So. Did the battle live up to the hype? It would've in 2006-2008.

Now I know what you're thinking. "Maj hates everything, he nitpicks too fucking much." But here's the thing:

This battle was funny and entertaining as fuck!

I know that contradicts my view about hating joke-infested battles, but I like to laugh every so often myself. It's not all "TALK TO THIS NIGGA!!!" battles. I dig variety, but there were so many jokes that a nigga is full.

Did Diz 3-0 dumb? Absolutely, and I'll be damned if I say I didn't laugh hysterically watching it.

I salute them both for finally battling, I just wish it happened sooner.
