Caustic vs. Bigg K: What To Expect

We preview one of the headline battles from KOTD’s “Back To Baysics 3.”

The co-main event for King Of The Dot’s "Back To Baysics 3” still has fans talking — impressive considering it was the first match-up announced, and the magnitude of the names on the rest of the card. Both Bigg K and Caustic are constantly mentioned in conversations about who’s next in line for a shot at the KOTD title, and many fans are looking at this as an unofficial #1 contenders match (even though neither of them can cross to Canada and that a rematch between K and Illmac would be premature at this point). Whether or not this match has title shot implications doesn’t really matter. These are two fan favorites stepping into the ring to see who’s better. That’s big.

These two battlers are likely coming into this match with very different mindsets. While Bigg K hasn’t had a major-league bout since facing Ill Will at “MASSacre” in May (considered by most as a 2-1 victory for him), Caustic is coming fresh off an apparent loss to Big T at Don’t Flop’s A3C festival event in Atlanta. He’s also a few weeks away from a high-stakes grudge match with DF champ Soul.

Will this be a problem for either battler? Probably not. Bigg K has never really shown ring rust after taking time off, and typically comes back from breaks with serious fire. Caustic, on the other hand, is known for thriving on short notice. If all goes well, we’ll see the best from both battlers in their respective elements here.

They both seem equally at home in the pit format, so what advantages do they have over one another? For one, Caustic will need to step up the force of his incisive wit and deconstructive personals to match Bigg K’s relentless haymakers. K’s ability to make the crowd explode every few lines may actually be turning into a disadvantage, as he often seems to get irritated when he’s cut off from getting through his material cleanly. Caustic typically uses breaks like these to his benefit, coming up with additional freestyles during his own rounds and taking digs at his opponent during theirs. K often does the same thing, muttering “corny” and “trash” enough times that they’ve effectively become his catchphrases. We may see light-hearted banter, or we may see it get chippy, but expect the battle to be as hard-fought between the verses as in them.

Outside of the aggression we’ll see in the battle, these two have mutual respect outside of the ring and have previously engaged in friendly combat playing Street Fighter, and K will definitely be coming after Caustic for retribution for getting stuck with the controller with the broken X button.

With this much potential for a classic, we might even see that $1,000 bonus check for battle of the night, or even performance of the night, awarded here.

There's a live pay-per-view for this event, hosted by Rone and BattleRap.com's editor-in-chief Chris Mitchell. Get it here.
