5 Match-Up Ideas For KOTD's "World Domination 6"

Our picks for the battles we want to see at KOTD's August event.

Promotion for King Of The Dot's "World Domination 6" is fully underway now, with the first trailer announcing the title match between champion Rone and challenger Caustic.

Here we present a few more suggestions for match-ups we would like to see at the event. We’ve tried, with great pain, to keep the ideas limited to ones we could realistically see, despite how much we’d love if Loaded Lux vs. Daylyt was on the card.

Pat Stay (Canada) vs. Tony D (U.K.)

WD6-ideas-Pat-Stay-vs-Tony-D

Let’s face it: Pat Stay didn’t lose to Illmaculate as much as he forfeited the title. After defences against Daylyt, Dizaster, and Charron, it became clear that, despite being Canada’s best (and arguably KOTD’s best) and biggest star, Pat had grown sick of the title. He'd reached the point where he had nothing left to prove as champion and chose to use his third round to dictate his future match-ups.

Then there’s Tony D, who relinquished his spot as Don’t Flop champion after successful defences against Deffinition, Chris Leese, and Unanymous. Despite Soul’s popularity as champ, and recognition for his performances, many fans still look at Tony as the best in the U.K. now and the best there has ever been. He has been given some of America's biggest stars (Charlie Clips and Chilla Jones) and is, outside of maybe Shotty Horroh, Don’t Flop’s biggest ever star.

While the narrative of the two biggest stars in KOTD and Don’t Flop clashing should be reason enough for this battle, Tony D has also specifically been requesting Pat for most of the last year, even claiming this was the only battle he wanted to do in 2016. Pat, in a Facebook post asking for potential opponents — mentioning specifically that Iron Solomon wasn’t possible for WD6 — even hinted that he’d be willing to battle Tony D.

The Saurus (U.S.) vs Kid Twist (Canada)

WD6-Ideas-Kid-Twist-vs-The-Saurus

One of these days The Saurus is going to run out of possible great match-ups, but luckily, at least in this era, there’s still the tantalising prospect of a battle with Kid (Fucking) Twist. Kid Twist and The Saurus have battled before, at Scribble Jam in 2008, and in 2-on-2 match-ups partnered with PoRich and Illmaculate, respectively — but these were during the freestyle era. A thing to keep in mind as well is that The Saurus has, in the written era, battled every other KOTD champ (mostly solo but a couple in 2-on-2s), and could solidify his position as one of the number one contenders if Rone loses the chain.

Kid Twist has yet to battle in 2016, but hasn't been far from away from battle rap. His first feature film script, a story about battle rap featuring Charron, Pat Stay, Dizaster, and many others, is being made this July in Los Angeles. He returned from a three-year hiatus in 2015 and still had a solid year, with no clear losses in battles against John John Da Don, Rone, Oshea, Chedda Cheese, and a 2-on-2 with Knamelis against Shuffle-T and Marlo.

Kid Twist always has a creative take on his opponents and an ability to make jokes other people wouldn’t think of, so it would be particularly interesting to see how he approaches a battle with The Saurus, someone who, quite frankly, has been attacked in every conceivable way. If there’s someone to find an original take on The Saurus’s face, it’s probably Kid Twist.

With this match-up there’s a ton of history, like the ghostwriting angle Arcane used against The Saurus, and the fact that Kid Twist has lost both times when they've met previously. Seeing some of these things brought up would, for long time KOTD fans, be a fantastic throwback to the early years of the league, and a reward for their long-time patronage.

Head I.C.E (U.S) vs. Pass (U.S.)

WD6-ideas-Head-ICE-vs-Pass

Against Bigg K we were reminded just how good Head I.C.E can be when given the right opponent. He was funny, clever, aggressive, and had that presence unique to him. Despite a debatable loss, this was one of I.C.E’s best KOTD performances and showed why he is in the conversation to be the next KOTD title contender. And against Pass, he’d be facing someone clearly in contention for the chain as well, who’s coming off a completely different performance.

Before a somewhat lacklustre performance, Pass had been on a tear in KOTD, arguably beating Charlie Clips, dismantling Chilla Jones, walking all over Arsonal, and continuing with a clear victory over Bishop Brigante at "Blackout 6." In most fans’ eyes, he was well on his way to a title shot; after "Massacre 2" though, not so much. With Head I.C.E this is a chance for Pass to face one of KOTD’s very best, and to put himself right back in consideration for the next title shot.

Style wise this match-up fits perfectly, with both being great rappers with commanding presences. Both focus on building stories in their rounds, and humor, rather than just a setup/punch approach. If they were to battle, victory will depend on who has bigger moments and, in particular, engages the crowd more. While there’s no specific history between the two, they’re both very competitive and would, guaranteed, want to show their opponent the respect they deserve.

PNut (U.S.) vs. Shox The Rebel (U.K.)

WD6-ideas-PNut-vs-Shox-The-Rebel

For those who aren’t avid Don’t Flop followers, you may not know who Shox The Rebel is. Please remedy this immediately, as this is someone who is already becoming the next big thing in the U.K. After clear victories over Jonny Storm and Coma, he recently had a debatable one-rounder (footage currently not released) versus recent Don’t Flop title challenger Raptor. If you check Don’t Flop's Facebook group, there is constant buzz surrounding him and conversation that he could, within the next year, be getting a title shot.

Stylistically he matches up best with Fresh Coast veteran, and man reborn, PNut. Once one of the most overlooked in battle rap history, PNut has consistently put on great performance after great performance over the last six years, and is now getting his shine on the Fresh Coast with recent victories (according to online polls) over both J Dose and Bonnie Godiva. Even though he has been around for such a long time, his buzz is finally starting and a trip to World Domination could really help give him a push towards top tier in King Of The Dot.

These are two battlers with something to prove, both with upwards trajectory, who will try to out punch the opponent put in front of them. A thing to note, however, is that this battle would be dependent on Shox getting a passport. Last we checked, he is working towards figuring out if he can enter Canada to battle. Hopefully this gets resolved and Shox is seen on KOTD in the near future.

100 Bulletz (Canada) vs. Lu Cipher (U.S.)

WD6-ideas-100-Bulletz-vs.-Lu-Cipher

If you don’t see why this match-up makes sense, it's possible you don't know either Lu Cipher or 100 Bulletz. Both of these two love word play — the type to send a 3 a.m. group chat text of a pun they thought of in a dream and just couldn’t handle not sharing. They both are heavily slept on, with victories over noteworthy opponents and have, in no instance, come close to being bodied.

For Lu, World Domination would be a huge move and allow for him to continue his steady rise. After a somewhat disappointing showing in his KOTD debut against Madflex (in terms of his high standards), it also would give him a huge opportunity to show off for the league's fans who haven’t seen his classic with Troy Brown. Bulletz has a lot less to gain from this match-up, but it allows him to test his pen against an incredibly good writer, which he has shown in the past he is eager to do. It also may keep/put him in KOTD title contention, as he is probably Canada’s best battler that has yet to ever have a shot at the KOTD chain.
