What To Expect From Black Ice Cartel's "War Season"

Featuring Charlie Clips vs. Qleen Paper, Big T vs. Danja Zone, QP vs. Marv Won, DNA vs. C3 and more.

Black Ice Cartel is returning to New York City this Saturday, June 30 with a strong card featuring a main event between Qleen Paper and Charlie Clips, a top male vs. female battle in DNA vs. C3, and an NWX vs. Writers Bloque clash pitting Big T against Danja Zone.

The full card is:

  • Qleen Paper vs. Charlie Clips
  • Danja Zone vs. Big T
  • QP (SONS) vs. Marv Won
  • DNA vs. C3
  • Killa B vs. Heartless

There are also several undercard match-ups earlier in the day. Scroll down for the flyer.

Here's the trailer:

The main event of the night involves two of the battlers with the most variance between their best and worst. At their best, both Qleen Paper and Charlie Clips have very reasonable claims for being among the absolute best in the entire battle rap scene. Both are incredibly charismatic and talented rappers. Unfortunately, on the other side of that coin is their habit of sometimes not coming as prepared as fans may hope. Clips in particular is coming off of a cbattle with Rum Nitty, which many feel wasn't exactly his best performance. Both have a history of bringing it for Black Ice battles though, so this one still has a ton of potential, making it a quintessential high-risk, high-reward clash.

There has recently been a lot of discussion about who the strongest group in battle rap is, with NWX leading much of the current debate. At "War Season" NWX’s own Big T will be seeking to strengthen his group's claim as the best in the game against Writers Bloque’s Danja Zone. Both guys are good rappers capable of landing well-crafted haymakers. Danja got a lot of recognition as a strong candidate for Top Battler Of 2015, and Big T is always a force to be reckoned with.

DNA and K-Shine recently spoke of the potential of a full NWX vs. Writers Bloque card, and this battle could be a good preview of what may be to come.

Marv Won is one of the funniest emcees in the game, often employing a sarcastic sense of humor effective for clowning his opponents. QP, for all of his strengths, seems to regularly find himself in ridiculous situations, and then for those situations to bubble up on YouTube. Between appearing on The Maury Show, getting chased out of the house by his girlfriend/ex-girlfriend/whatever and anything else happening in the life of QP, the man always leaves his opponents with some material. He's still one of the best writers around though, and on Black Ice cards, he has been particularly strong. His performances against Qleen Paper, Chilla Jones and Bonnie Godiva all stand out as excellent.

QP has been busy in 2016, and just battled The Saurus in Los Angeles last weekend. We caught up with him at the KOTD event, and he said he'd be ready for the battle with Marv.

C3 has some experience against male battle rappers, most recently going up against Tay Roc at QOTR’s “Watch The Throne,” and now she seeks to add another top tier male to her resume. DNA isn’t likely to just go away quietly though, as he is one of the most experienced in the game, and is an expert at doing enough to not be clearly beaten.

Killa B is one of the better up-and-comers plying his trade on Black Ice Cartel. He is perhaps best known for battling in "The Cage" against  Relly Rell. At "War Season," he'll be going up against a veteran and very respected writer in Heartless. Despite the respect his pen generates, Heartless has never really been able to break through and be regarded as a truly elite battler. Even so, a win over someone of Heartless' caliber could do a lot for Killa B's standing, so for him this is a big battle.

The event goes down July 30 at The Kymberle Project in New York City. Get tickets here.
