Bishop Brigante: "I Think Drake Can Beat Murda Mook"

"Take everything away that he’s achieved: all his accolades, his plaques, his music, the R&B stuff, the cosigns, whatever,” Bishop Brigante says of Drake. “He’s a rapper.

KOTD co-host and former battler Bishop Brigante recently sat down with VladTV to address mainstream interest in battle rap and the possibility of fellow Toronto emcee Drake entering the ring against Murda Mook.

In August, Murda Mook sparked rumors of a possible battle between himself and Drake with an Instagram post of the two squaring off. In the image’s caption, Mook claimed that Drake said he wants to battle Mook and wrote: “Who got the check?”

“Who doesn’t look at some sporting event, like, ‘I could do that,’” Brigante said, describing celebrity rappers contemplating a career in battle rap. “You look at everything and then you get excited ‘cause you’re a fan of it. I know how much Drake and the whole clique over there supports and watches battle rap. It’s not impossible in my mind to believe that there’s been moments where he may have thought of some shit that he could have said to somebody. I’ve got the itch to come back. I’ve been toying with when I’m gonna come back.”

Asked directly if he thinks that Drake is capable of a win against Murda Mook, Bishop pointed to a diss track penned by the Take Care artist years ago aimed at a rapper named Aristo.

“Yes, I think Drake can beat Murda Mook if Drake applies himself,” he said. “I’ve seen Drake in combat. I’ve seen Drake, you could look it up. We actually went at some cats in our city years ago. We have a record out called ‘Good Riddance.’ That record was actually just cut and paste together because we all did our verses but then eventually it came to the point where we just wasn’t going to respond to what was being said about him. There was a clique that was going at him or whatever. We all homies and shit so the city dubbed us The Wiseguys because it was hella greasy how we went at that whole situation. If you listen to that verse, what Drake spit on there, it’ll give you a little sneak peek on how Drake gets down when he’s confronting situations. He also has a record called ‘Goodnight And Good Luck’ going at the same guy that initiated the situation with him.”

Addressing whether or not Drake would be able to translate his skills into an in-the-ring match-up, Bishop Brigante said simply, “he got bars.”

“Take everything away that he’s achieved: all his accolades, his plaques, his music, the R&B stuff, the cosigns, whatever,” he said. “He’s a rapper. He’s a lyricist. He got bars. You don’t just get to the places where he’s at by not actually being able to actually rap. He’s got bars. So the idea of, can Drake beat Murda Mook? When you say it to me, absolutely. Absolutely. And Murda Mook is Top 5 for me. So, yeah, it’s gon’ sound crazy but absolutely. I think Drake could beat a lot of people in battle rap right now. He can write and he can perform. If it ever happens, that’s another question.”
